Few contractors on earth have poured more airport concrete this century than Limak. It led the five-firm consortium that won the €22.1bn tender for Istanbul-Grand Airport in 2013 and delivered it in 2018. It built the terminal at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen in record time, the apron and taxiway system at Cairo, the terminal at Pristina, and it finished the airport Saudi Binladin Group left unfinished outside Dakar. Between them, the airports Limak has built handle well over 140 million passengers in 2025.

Limak has since divested most of it. Its 20% of Istanbul-Grand went to its consortium partners Kalyon and Cengiz in March 2022; its 40% of Sabiha Gökçen was sold to its consortium partner Malaysia Airports in October 2014. Kuwait is a design-build contract, not a concession. What remains on the equity side is two assets — Pristina and Dakar — that together handled 7.59 million passengers in 2025. That is less than 10% of the traffic at the single airport Limak built and walked away from.

The Limak evolving today, is essentially a sea change: Over the last twenty-four months the group has appeared as a shortlisted or preferred bidder in two competitive processes on opposite sides of the world — a 30-year PPP in Laos and the outright sale of a Scottish airport — while extending the concession it already holds in Kosovo and signing the final construction packages in Kuwait. Limak appears set to convert an EPC franchise into an equity portfolio.
