The process leading to the privatization of SAC, the company that manages the airports of Catania and Comiso, has officially begun. The shareholders' meeting, which met in recent days, expressed a unanimous vote in favor of starting the procedures necessary to call for an international tender aimed at the entry of private capital into the shareholding structure. The institutional shareholders - including the Chamber of Commerce of South East Sicily, the Municipality and Metropolitan City of Catania, the Free Municipal Consortium of Syracuse, IRSAP and the Municipality of Comiso - have approved not only the operational process, but also the related technical-administrative documentation, including the new industrial plan that outlines the medium-long term development prospects of the Etna airports. The project involves the sale of the majority share of the company, while maintaining a qualified minority shareholding in the hands of the public shareholders, conceived as a guarantee for the territory and for the continuity of the public mission.
