Examining the Airport Privatization Landscape in 2023 – The Americas

It was a busy year for airport privatization throughout the Americas in 2023, following a strong recovery in passenger traffic from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Notable airport privatization activities took place across the region in 2023 - in the Caribbean, South America, and North America. However, in contrast with previous years, the 2023 airport privatization landscape in the Americas saw no large multi-airport tenders like the block airport sales in Brazil.

In the Caribbean region, airport transactions for the year included those for Grand Bahama International Airport and South Bimini International Airport in the Bahamas, Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados.

At Freeport, the Government of The Bahamas entered into an agreement with Aerodrome Limited, Manchester Airport Group Limited and BHM Construction International in early 2023 over the development and operation of the Grand Bahama International Airport.

Aerodrome will develop and finance the Grand Bahama International Airport, as well as manage the project under contract with the Freeport Airport Development Company. BHMCI will be the design-builder, while Manchester Airport Group would operate the airport.
