Returned to Scottish gov’t ownership/control in 2013 via buy-back from New Zealand’s Infratil for GBP1 (a GBP2m loss) to avert potential closure, PIK was reported to be going back to the private market according to media reports in late Jun. 2019. As part of the gov’t buyback, PIK received £40m in loans from the Scottish state which the gov’t aims to recoup through the re-privatization. PIK traffic peaked in 2007 at 2.4m pax due to strong growth in low-cost carriers service, led by Ryanair which utilized PIK as one of its operating bases, however passenger volumes been steadily dropping off since 2010 to just under 700,000 passengers.
