In Feb 2022,  media reported that four regional airports would be offered for private concession or under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework to foster the development of tourism in the interior of the country. Enrique A. Jiménez Airport, located in the province of Colón , will be the first to enter the concession process, followed by Howard terminal in 2023, then Scarlett Martínez Airport in Río Hato and, finally, Enrique Malek Airport in the province of Chiriquí.
