In Nov. 2019, industry media reported that a consortium comprised of TAV Airports and VPE Capital was in active negotiations to acquire ALA. The consortium (75% TAV, 25% VPE) is expected to invest USD200m for development of a new international terminal and related infrastructure upgrades, with construction initially targeted to commence by mid-2020 and open in 2022 however the program has delayed due to the COVID19 crisis with completion now targeted for 2024. The group has also committed to invest an additional EUR550m to develop ALA into a regional passenger transit and cargo hub.
