April 2020- AP1 is seeking to bring a strategic partner onboard to unlock the potential value of LOP through a strategic partnership under the proposed partnership scheme by growing aeronautical and non-aeronautical sides of the business. LOP is slated to become a major tourism hub in the region with major infrastructure projects already underway to support the govt’s vision. Currently activity is mainly driven by the Mandalika resort area in the island’s south. Main countries of origin with direct routes to LOP include Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Malaysia and South Korea. The potential strategic partner will have the right to develop new assets and utilize existing assets relating to landside facilities during the partnership period, however there will be no transfer of the airport operating license from AP1 to the partner. The strategic partnership will be structured in the form of a Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer agreement (DBFOT) with a 30-year concession period. The estimated investment value for the project is USD700m. On Dec. 25, 2021, media reported that construction completion reached 91% in Jan. 2021 and is now very close to pull completion and that the expansion programme has been financed by the government in readiness for the 2022 MotoGP event in February 2022. Despite the pandemic, the airport has continued to receive both international and domestic flights.
