Jun. 2019 – The Guatemalan Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) has initiated a process to modernize La Aurora Airport through a public-private partnership under direction of the Economic Cabinet (GABECO) through the Law of Alliances for the Development of Economic Infrastructure (ANADIE). A feasibility study was conducted by Deloitte – Tetra Tech and submitted to CIV. The projected capital investment for the project is USD117m, including runway, taxiway and approach lighting upgrades, as well as passenger terminal improvements. Upon review/refinement, the Deloitte – Tetra Tech report will be submitted to (ANADIE) for review/endorsement and then passed onto the National Council of Alliances for the Development of Economic Infrastructure (CONADIE) for approval and publication of the process for establishing private sector participation in the project, including qualification and selection criteria. The country’s PPP regulatory and institutional framework is well-developed and considered to be ” fit-for-purpose” however the process has yet to be tested.
