The Gov’t of Bolivia, through SABSA and the Viceministerio de Planificación Estratégica del Estado, has initiated the process of implementing a PPP to appoint a private sector int’l operator with proven experience in airport development, operation and maintenance to undertake privatization of VVI, under a 30-40 year concession contract. Capital investment during the term is estimated at USD550-580m. VVI is currently operated by SABSA, which was previously comprised of Spanish shareholders Abertis and AENA, however the airport nationalised in Feb-2013 by Morales gov’t due to alleged underinvestment. Interested parties to date, as identified by the gov’t, include; Groupe ADP and Vinci Airports (France), Zurich (Switzerland); Mitsubishi Corporation (Japan); Corporacion America Airports (Argentina), Azimut-Rostec (Russia) and Finnova (Belgium).
