Overview
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide Bangladesh with USD3.3b in official development assistance to support development of seven key projects, including expansion of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The agreement was signed between JICA and the Bangladeshi Economic Relations Division. The USD750m project includes construction an international passenger terminal, cargo terminals and other infrastructure and facilities. Upon completion of the project, the airport will be capable of handling 12m pax/year with plans for further expansion to 25m pax by 2035. Construction of a new ‘dependent runway’ is also being considered.
