Overview

Construction of Kukës airport commenced in May 2003 and was completed in Oct. 2005, at a total capital cost of USD20m, facilitated by the gov’t of the United Arab Emirates however, due to an exclusivity on international flights granted to the concessionaire for Tirana Int’l (TIA) from 2005-2025. In 2016, the gov’t reached an agreement with the TIA concessionaire to waive the exclusivity. Subsequently, the gov’t initiated a PPP process, seeking private investors for further investment, operation and maintenance of Kukës airport, with prescribed construction to be completed within 24 months.
